We understood the importance of dealing in environmentally and socially responsible goods early on, and were among the first merchants to join Better Cotton, Cotton made in Africa and both leading organic standards. Today, Otto Stadtlander ranges amongst the largest sustainable cotton merchants and consultants, offering a variety of cotton from certified sustainable projects.

Regenerative agriculture programme
An international standard that verifies regenerative farming practices — improving soil health, sequestering carbon, and protecting biodiversity. Otto Stadtlander supplies regenagri-certified cotton from selected origins.
The world's largest sustainable cotton initiative
Better Cotton (formerly BCI) is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world, training farmers in water stewardship, soil health and decent work. Otto Stadtlander was an early signatory.
Smallholders in sub-Saharan Africa
Cotton made in Africa supports African smallholders through training, fair trading conditions and strict environmental standards. Otto Stadtlander has supplied CmiA cotton to European mills for years.
Global Organic Textile Standard
GOTS is the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres — covering ecological and social criteria from harvest through manufacture.
Organic Content Standard
The Organic Content Standard verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a final product and tracks the flow of raw material from source to garment.
Origin of the Nile-grown extra-long staples
The Egyptian Cotton mark distinguishes long- and extra-long-staple cotton grown in the Nile Delta — the historic origin of the finest cotton on Earth.
We do not want things to sustain as they are — existing practices need to evolve into a holistic, good-doing focused system. We aim our business operations at encouraging a restorative and regenerative agricultural approach in our sourcing origins.
The regenagri standard combines thorough feasibility with regeneration, CO₂ sequestration, and biodiversity. It is ideal for industry partners that have realised that organic agriculture is not the only solution to the textile industry's share of global warming.
